Recap: Handbag Activation @ Wetherly for Hobo Bags

April 02, 2017

One of my 2017 goals was to paint leather goods. Personalization is always in style, leather bags and jackets are timeless, so why had I not created one-of-a-kind wearable art for people outside of my immediate circle? Serendipitously I was contacted by Wetherly Group, a fashion PR firm to activate for one of the brands they represent, Hobo.

Hobo bags are beautiful and have the 70s flair that reflects my personal sense of style. I painted 100+ bags over a 3-day event at the Wetherly office in Beverly Hills. Working from Hobo's mood and inspiration boards I developed a menu of options which was displayed to help the 100+ stylist, fashion bloggers, celebrities, and influencers decide what they wanted (although people could really ask for almost anything their heart desired and I would paint it on the spot!)  The Meadow Crossbody bag was my canvas for this on-demand art. I also painted a variety of satchels, backpacks, and larger purses for a special eCommerce event.

Live painting a brand new bag in a short amount of time was a blast, but having time to develop designs that fit the brand prior to the event was critical to the success of this collaboration!  I really hope I see some of these fringed wonders out at Coachella!
